Tuition fees

For EU citizens, tuition fees in Lithuania typically range from 1,000 to 5,000 EUR per year for a Bachelor’s degree and 2,000 to 6,000 EUR per year for a Master’s degree, while doctorate programmes come in at a higher range of 7,000 to 8,000 EUR annually.

Students from outside the EU may be subject to different tuition fees, depending on the university and programme. If you study at a university in Lithuania, you may be eligible for a state scholarship to cover the tuition fees. Tuition fees do not apply to students on exchange programmes.

Average tuition fees in institutions of higher education depend on the area of study and the study cycle. The cost of studies in higher education institutions is, on average, between EUR 1,000 and EUR 5,300 per year for bachelor’s studies, between EUR 2,200 and EUR 6,500 per year for master’s studies and between EUR 7,100 and EUR 8,500 per year for doctoral studies.

Since higher education is notoriously costly in most parts of the world, more than three-fourths of international students in Lithuania agree that they get their buck – with reasonable tuition fees for the highest quality of studies and generous scholarships for high-quality education.

Cost of living

One striking advantage for those who choose to study in Lithuania is the remarkably low cost of living. Student accommodation can be had for as little as 100 EUR per month. All in all, including food, books and leisure activities, students can easily get by on a budget of 500 EUR per month or less.

Education System

In line with other countries in Europe, degrees in Lithuania are taught in three cycles: undergraduate (bachelor’s), graduate (master’s) and postgraduate (doctorate or PhD).

At undergraduate level international students can choose to study for a bachelor’s degree or a professional qualification. There’s a wide variety of programs you can choose to study in Lithuania, with a focus on science and research.

There’s a variety of universities and schools international students can apply to in Lithuania, including specialist business schools, medical universities and engineering universities.

Post Study Opportunities in Lithuania

SCHOLARSHIP

In Lithuania, there are different scholarship opportunities. The State, institutions of higher education and international scholarship programs offer scholarships. Each higher education institution also has its own scholarship funds and financing schemes on the basis of which one-time awards or other types of awards are awarded to students who meet certain institutional funds requirements. Lithuanians living abroad and expatriates (children, grandchildren, grandchildren of expatriates who lived abroad for more than three years and began studying in Lithuania at least in the ninth grade). This scholarship, including holidays, is awarded for one semester.
